Ben-my-Chree sailings cancelled

Knock-on effect of Saturday's damaged turbo

There will be no Ben-my-Chree sailings today after all, the Steam Packet has confirmed.

It had hoped to fix a damaged turbo in time for this morning and afternoon's journeys to and from the Island to go ahead, albeit with four-hour delays, with a decision due on the evening and overnight ones by 1pm.

But an update from the company says further damage has been identified by the manufacturer and additional spare parts have had to be ordered from the UK.

They're due on the Island later today.

The Steam Packet says it's trying to arrange an extra Manannan overnight sailing, which will be confirmed by 3pm.

Meanwhile, she'll leave Douglas 45 minutes later than scheduled this afternoon, as will the evening return from Liverpool.

Steam Packet CEO Mark Woodward says, "I want to personally apologise to our passengers and to assure you that we are doing everything we can to minimise the out-of-service time of the Ben as a result of this unexpected mechanical failure. With the assistance of specialists from the manufacturer of the failed turbocharger overnight, we now expect to be able to complete repairs today and have her back in service tomorrow morning."
