Beware Post Office privatisation says union head

 

A top union official says he thinks the Island’s Post Office needs to deal with deeper problems than its loss-making Crown branches.

 

Terry Pullinger of the Communications Workers Union flew into the Island yesterday (29 Jan) to take part in a public meeting in Ramsey about the proposed closure of the town’s post office.

The meeting drew an audience of 150, a third the number which attended November's event, as a grass roots campaign to save the facility gathered pace. 

 

Mr Pullinger was critical of plans to move the services into a nearby shop, saying people on the Island should be wary of effectively privatising essential public services.

 

And he says the issues which led to the decision may need to be looked at in more detail:
