Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend

RSPB wants your help monitoring stocks

There's a chance to take part in one of the largest annual citizen science projects in the British Isles this weekend.

The Big Garden Birdwatch 2019, run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, takes place between 26-28 January.

Members of the public are asked to spend an hour watching the birds in their garden, local park, or even around their place of work, making a note of which birds were spotted and in what numbers, before sending their findings to the RSPB.

The sightings can be made on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Phil Carson, from RSPB Northern Ireland, says over 400 people on the Isle of Man took part last year, and whilst house sparrows and starlings were the most common species seen, there were also some more unusual sightings.

If you want to take part, all the details are on the RSPB website.
