Blind student welcomes new laws

Manxman at centre of discrimination case

A blind Manx student has welcomed the introduction of new anti-discrimination laws, after a UK court ruled he was unfairly treated by a taxi driver.

Juan Greggor, 25 and from Peel, was left 'embarrassed' when a cabbie in Preston refused to pick him up because of his guide dog.

Shahzad Ahmed was fined £430 and disclipined by the city's council for breaching the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

The Isle of Man only recently introduced similar legislation to tackle inequality in all its forms, including on grounds of physical and mental impairment.
