Book about life in Knockaloe internment camp reissued as part of 'Recovered Books' series

'Time Stood Still' by Paul Cohen-Portheim was first published in the 1930s

A book written by a man who was interned on the Isle of Man during the First World War has been reissued.

'Time Stood Still' is by Paul Cohen-Portheim who was born in Germany to Austrian Parents, and was visiting friends in England when the war broke out.

He was sent to Knockaloe in 1915, where over 30,000 people were held behind barbed wire.

First published in the 1930s, the book is now part of the Recovered Books series from Boiler House Press.

In it, Mr Cohen-Portheim details his experience of the Island.

He's been called an optimist, describing the camp as “rough, barbaric, but, to me at least, exhilarating”.

He was transferred to Wakefield in 1918 and died in Paris in 1932.
