MHK raises issue with Boot

The impact of Brexit on the Island's territorial seas has been brought to the attention of Tynwald at this morning's extraordinary sitting.

Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper put a question to Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot.

He wanted to know what assessment has been made of the potential for an increase in the number of EU vessels fishing in Manx waters on day one of a no-deal Brexit

In his answer, Mr Boot said the number of foreign vessels found in the Island's seas were low.

And he said the first day of the UK's departure from the EU - as it stands - is the start of the king scallop season and therefore protection vessels will already be in place:
