Bride community 'evenly split' over abandoned development plans

Clerk's view after holiday lodge proposals withdrawn

A proposed tourist development in the north of the Island split public opinion in the area.

A planning application for 55 holiday lodges at the Glen Truan golf course site in Bride was withdrawn yesterday (7 June).

The proposals by Lancashire-based Pure Leisure Group were first revealed last year, and prompted a strong reaction within the local community.

The company is owned by Island resident John Morphet.

The plans had been due to be the subject of an extraordinary meeting of the planning committee next week.

Members were due to consider a report by the Planning and Building Control Directorate, which recommended the application be refused.

Clerk to Bride Commissioners Lisa Sims says the proposals divided views in the parish.
