Burglars stole from same warehouse twice in two months

Cookers and televisions taken from Manx Independent Carriers

A court’s heard how two men burgled the same Snugborough warehouse twice in less than two months.

Thirty-two-year-old David Christopher Cain of Coronation Terrace in Douglas and 57-year-old Jeremy Frank Bentham of Lag Birragh Drive in Onchan appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

The duo admitted two counts each of burglary, committed on 27 October and 17 November last year.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Manx Independent Carriers audited items at its premises after realising some packages had gone missing.

Staff identified Cain and Bentham from CCTV and the hearing was told Cain was a former employee who’d deactivated alarms to get into the building.

The security footage showed the pair picking items to load into a white van, including cookers and televisions.

A number of items were never recovered, and the court heard Cain had sold £2,400 worth of goods for just £400.

During interview, he told police it had been a stupid mistake but he’d needed the money.

Mrs Hughes bailed both in the sum of £500 to appear for sentencing on 10 March.
