Tynwald to vote on ban at this month's sitting

Businesses will have time to use up single-use plastics if new laws banning the sale and distribution of items like straws, polystyrene cups and plastic stemmed cotton buds are approved this week.

Tynwald will be asked to approve the ban at this month's sitting.

Plastic carrier bags, stirrers and balloon sticks would also be covered by the legislation.

While the ban would come into force the day after it's approved, member for the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture Dr Michelle Haywood says existing stocks can be used:
