Busy afternoon for southern fire crews

Blaze in chip shop

Fire crews in the south of the Island had a busy afternoon yesterday (Wed 7th)

Shortly before 4.30pm crews from Port Erin and Castletown were called to a blaze at a chip shop on main road Port Erin.

They were met with thick black smoke and flames coming from the flat roof at the rear of the property.

Crews used breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and a hose reel to locate and fight the fire and then ventilated the building with a pressure fan.

They praised the quick actions of the chip shop owners and staff who had isolated all services to the area, and evacuated the property swiftly.

A short time later crews were called out to house fire at Cronk Y Thatcher in Colby.

They again used breathing apparatus to enter the property where they found the fire was confined to an oven.
