Busy day for PSM lifeboat crews

Two vessels suffer engine failure in the south

Two rescue operations were carried out in the south of the Island yesterday.

Port St Mary Lifeboat crews had to assist two vessels that had suffered engine failure.

The first happened at 1.10pm yesterday afternoon - two crew on board the in-shore lifeboat came to the aid of a 17ft dory.

Three people were aboard the lightweight boat when it got caught behind Port St Mary breakwater.

The dory was towed in by fishing charter vessel, Gemini, before those on the lifeboat took over.

Then, just before 4.40pm a six-man crew was called into action.

It followed a distress call from a 30ft motor yacht named Midnight Runner which was on her way from Conway to Douglas.

Her engine had failed 30 miles off the south coast of the Island and had to be towed back to Port St Mary with the sole passenger on board.

No casualties were reported by Port St Mary Lifeboats.
