Busy time for Manx musicians during 'Culture Month'

Culture Vannin highlights events in latest newsletter

As part of Year of Our Island, July was Culture Month.

Culture Vannin released their Manx-music newsletter for August which reflected on last month's busy period.

Yn Chrunniaght celebrated its 40th anniversary, with free lunchtime gigs at Noa Bakehouse adding to the busy schedule.

Culture Vannin ran a crash course in the tin whistle, teaching basic melodies to learners of all ages.

July also saw the inaugural, 'Manx Music Day' on Manx Radio.

Imar, a five piece band with two Manx artists announced that they will appear on the cover of September's Irish Music Magazine.

Manx Music was the subject of a programme on Radio Four. Laura Barton spoke to musicians including Greg Joughin and Mera Royle in her, 'notes from a musical island'.

Various groups travelled overseas during July. These included dancers Perree Bane who went to Cumbria, the Cathedral Choir who travelled to Armagh and Manx Magic Choir travelled to Hungary.
