Caley's Stores in Sulby sold to local family

Landmark closed its doors in March

A local shop described as the heart of the Sulby community has been sold.

Caley's General Stores has been in the village for over 70 years, and was opened by Sulby stalwart Raymond Caley.

When he passed away in 2017, the business was left to Graham Garrett, who worked there with Raymond for forty years.

Mr Garrett and his wife Carolyn decided to shut up shop in March to seek new challenges.

Manxmove Estate Agents arranged the sale to a 'local family', but it's not known what will happen to the building next.

Interest in the property was varied according to the agent, and included 'a lady from Buenos Aires in Argentina who wanted to keep the shop open'.

A landmark on the TT course, the store became a favourite for competitors like John McGuinness and Conor Cummins.
