Callister explains trademark issue

TT can't be used on products, but can elsewhere

Revenue streams from TT licences must be protected, or taxpayers will feel the burden, according to the member with responsibility for motorsport, Rob Callister MHK.

He insists those who've paid for the brand should have exclusive use of it, and is urging local firms who want to use the trademark to contact the Department of Economic Development.

It's granted more than 50 licences, generating £2.6 million, along with sponsorship deals, ticket sales and hospitality. 

Mr Callister says if this income is lost, the Manx public would have to pay more to fund the iconic event. 

He explains if a commercial product uses the event's trademark without official agreement, it risks being banned - but there are exceptions:
