Tynwald member who lead suicide inquiry gives view
A former Tynwald member believes there's still work that can be done in terms of helping people deal with mental health.
This week marks Suicide Awareness Week.
In the last year, 11 suicide verdicts were recorded at Manx inquests.
David Cretney, lead an inquiry on suicide and handed over a report with suggestions to Tynwald in 2019.
He told Manx Radio while some items have been taken further, there's still some suggestions that haven't been picked up:
Meanwhile, the founder of a Facebook group that offers support to those who've been affected by suicide is urging more to be done to tackle stigma surrounding it.
David Higson lost his son in 2018 and now raises money for mental health charities.
He says various groups on the Island are working to raise more awareness, but believes more people need training in spotting the signs.
