Manx Menstrual Movement has been calling for Island-wide provision since forming in 2024
A move towards free period products on the Island has been welcomed by a local campaign group.
This week, Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher was granted leave to introduce a Private Members Bill which would see the items provided in public restrooms.
The Manx Menstrual Movement was established by Nicki Gaskell and Rhian Evans (of Manx Radio 'After Hours' fame) in 2024 having been inspired by steps taken in Scotland to introduce free period products.
Having researched the Scottish bill, the group approached the member for Douglas East with the idea and Ms Faragher agreed to take it on.
Co-Founder of the Manx Menstrual Movement, Nicki Gaskell, says it would be great to see the legislation introduced here as soon as possible:
Ms Faragher compared the provision of free period products to that of toilet paper and soap in public facilities as something that meets a 'natural need' and provides 'comfort, hygiene and dignity'.

The Manx Menstrual Movement has also installed a 'Period Pick n Mix Station' in Douglas Library for anyone who needs the items - no questions asked.
It also distributes 'Donation Station' boxes for organisations to provide an in-house supply of period products.
