Cannan: Government not informed of Ramsey Bakery decision

Chief minister calls for 'urgent meeting' with directors

The chief minister says he's seeking an 'urgent meeting' with the directors of Ramsey Bakery.

Alfred Cannan claims government wasn't informed of the company's decision to close at the end of the month.

He's described it as 'concerning news for multiple reasons' and says government needed to further understand the decision given the role the bakery plays in the food supply chain.

Ramsey Bakery started operating in 1972.

In a statement it says the decision to stop trading was 'heart-wrenching’ but the company is 'unsustainable'.

The closure will also affect all Mr B’s stores.
