Cannan not drawn on Chief Minister speculation

Treasury Minister asked if he'll go for top job

The Treasury Minister has refused to be drawn on speculation he could put himself forward to be the Island's next Chief Minister.

Alfred Cannan stood against Howard Quayle for the position following the last General Election and has confirmed he'll be seeking re-election in Ayre and Michael.

Some have tipped him to follow the path of previous treasury ministers by taking the top job in Manx politics.

But Mr Cannan insists the public vote comes first:

The Isle of Man General Election takes place on 23 September.

The other candidates who have declared in Ayre and Michael are sitting MHK Tim Baker, Tim Johnston and Paul Weatherall who is standing for Liberal Vannin.
