Capacity will keep lights on over winter says MUA

Island in comfortable position for power

The Island's power station is geared-up to see the population through a long, cold winter, according to Manx Utilities.

That upbeat assessment is in contrast to fears the UK national grid does not have enough spare capacity to cope with a long-term surge in demand.

It's the result of increased competition in the energy market, which has driven down both prices and capacity - and has led some UK analysts to predict a serious risk of blackouts over the winter.

The MUA regularly exports electricity to the UK when capacity on the grid drops.

Business development manager Richard Bujko says the Isle of Man is in a very comfortable position:
