Car dealership boss admits drink-driving

Bettridge banned for two years and fined £1,000

The boss of a well-known motor business in Foxdale has admitted drink-driving.

Forty-six-year-old Peter Anthony Bettridge appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

Bettridge, of East Foxdale Road in Eairy, pleaded guilty to driving while over the proscribed limit on 4 October.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the court police on patrol spotted an Audi A3 driving through Foxdale at 8.40am and followed it.

Officers spoke to Bettridge when he pulled into the Ellan Vannin Fuel garage on Main Road, and noticed he smelled of alcohol.

He failed a roadside breath test and blood samples taken at police headquarters showed he was one-and-a-half times the drink drive limit.

His advocate told the hearing Bettridge, of Bettridge Motors, had made what she described as a stupid decision to drive and was extremely remorseful.

Magistrates banned him from the roads for two years, also fining him £1,000 and ordering him to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
