Weight to be used instead of engine size from 2022
Car tax is set to rise on the Isle of Man with big changes put forward for 2022.
An update to vehicle duty rates will be considered by Tynwald later this month.
The proposals include a one per cent increase across the board this year as well as using weight, instead of engine size, to calculate costs from 2022.
If approved there would also be a surcharge for diesel cars and light commercial vehicles.
However the current categories for vehicles registered before 2010 will be replaced next year.
Instead of cubic capacity kerb weight will be used to calculate the price of car tax from April 2022.
A £50 duty for electric vehicles would also be brought in, as well as six-monthly payments with a 10 per cent premium for those whose car tax comes to more than £200 per year.
