Care home plans meet concerns

Onchan Commissioners among objectors

Plans have been submitted for the building of an 80 bed care home in Onchan.

An application was made by Howstrake Developments Limited for approval in principle to erect the commercial facility on land at the far end of King Edward Road.

Designs include an L-shaped building with 30 parking spaces - the home is expected to employ more than twenty members of staff.

Several nearby residents have written to the planning department raising concerns about the proposed development.

Onchan Commissioners has recommended the application be refused as it doesn't conform with the IOM strategic plan and Onchan Local plan.

Meanwhile the Department of Environment Food and Agriculture is worried about the impact the development may have on the habitat of the local lizard population.

The eight week period allowed for planning officers to determine an application has run out, but officials say a decision may be arrived at as soon as possible.
