Castletown Commissioners brands Market Square vandalism an 'act of stupidity'

The local authority claims there was 'blatant damage' to floral planters and displays

Castletown Commissioners says it is 'disappointed' in the damage that was caused over the weekend in Market Square.  

Floral displays and flower boxes were damaged and will have to be paid for using ratepayers' money which has been 'diverted' from other services, the authority says.

Chair Tony Brown says the commissioners will do what they can to have people who undertake criminal damage to any of the town's property identified and made answerable.

The local authority says it won't tolerate vandalism and residents are 'appalled' by what happened over the weekend. 

Mr Brown added: "The commissioners find this deliberate act of vandalism unacceptable, and so disappointing when we are investing ratepayer's funds in making Castletown an attractive and pleasant place for people to enjoy.

"The residents of Castletown are appalled by such reckless damage to the towns property. The commissioners will not tolerate such acts of vandalism and unwarranted destruction; the commissioners will do all they can to have offenders who undertake criminal damage to any of the town's property identified and made answerable for the criminal damage they carried out.

"This sort of destruction, apart from being an act of stupidity, means that the commissioners must now expend ratepayer's money to rectify the damage, money which has to be diverted away from providing other town services.”
