Castletown offers storm refuge for residents


Weather conditions are to worsen in the next few hours - as we approach a high tide forecast to bring damage and disruption around the Island.

A storm surge shortly after midday will cause widespread flooding.

Emergency planning authorities have issued a red alert - they say flooding at least as bad as that seen in 2002 is a certainty.

Some roads in eastern parts of the island, along coasts and around ports, will be clsoed from 11am until tides subside later.

In Castletown, commissioners are opening the Civic Centre to offer a refuge for anyone who needs or wants to leave their home.

Forecasters say debris thrown over sea walls in heavy seas presents a real danger and people should stay away from flood areas.
