Mark Cavendish will miss the Commonwealth Games after being told he must have surgery on his injured right shoulder.

The Isle of Man rider dislocated his shoulder and damaged ligaments in a fall during the sprint finish in Saturday’s opening stage of the Tour de France – injuries which ruled him out of the entire Tour as well.
It’s a big but not unexpected blow for Team Isle of Man.
With just over a fortnight until the event starts in Glasgow, the ‘Manx Missile’ is expected to be out for around six weeks following surgery which it's understood will take place tomorrow (Wed)
Scan results showed the Manxman ruptured all ligaments around the joint at the top of his shoulder after a collision during the sprint in Harrogate.
It caps a massively disappointing few days for the 29 year-old who was hoping to contest the men's cycling road race alongside Peter Kennaugh.
Cavendish ended the Isle of Man’s 20-year wait for a Commonwealth gold when he won the 20km scratch race at the Melbourne Games in 2006.
