Celtic League steps in over death in custody

Letter sent to Council of Europe organisation

The Celtic League has stepped in to the fall-out from the death of suspected drug smuggler Steven Corkill while in police custody.

An inquest jury found "gross failures" by the Police contributed to his death in Nobles Hospital.

He died due to a "lethal amount of cocaine" in his blood

The Celtic League has a human rights remit and has written to the Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Torture.

Bernard Moffatt says the CPT has had several dealings with the Island over many years and has influenced future decisions.
