Changes to abortion law put forward

Appeal for public input ahead of reform

A new bill aimed at reforming abortion laws in the Isle of Man is being unveiled later.

The proposed changes, brought forward by Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson, would allow terminations to be performed for any reason up to 14 weeks into a pregnancy.

After that time, abortions would be available under exceptional circumstances.

Last year, 88 Manx women traveled off Island to undergo the procedure - prompting calls from pro-choice campaigners to relax the rules here.

A public consultation is seeking views on the bill before it is brought to Tynwald.

It's being launched at 10am online via consult.gov.im.
