Charity helping people affected by climate change in Africa given £1.37m

Send a Cow awarded grant from International Development Fund

A charity assisting those affected by climate change in rural parts of Africa has been given almost £1.4 million from the Isle of Man.

Send a Cow is one of two charities selected, from 30, that applied for support through the International Development Partnership.

The grant, £1.37 million, will go towards funding for projects aimed at helping people in Burundi - a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley bordering the African Great Lakes and East Africa.

The project aims to equip people with the skills to 'grow their way out of poverty' whilst educating them on managing natural resources and improving environmental sustainability.

It's also hoped it will 'empower women to participate in environmental and economic activities'.

Government is set to announce the second charity to be selected shortly.
