Chief Minister to make Tynwald statement

Quayle returns from 14-day coronavirus self-isolation

The only minister who has contracted the Covid-19 virus will address his colleagues in latest virtual sitting of Tynwald today.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle's statement to the court is expected to follow a short question paper, with all the oral questions connected with coronavirus and from Onchan member Julie Edge.

Standing orders will have to be suspended to allow this virtual sitting so that members can take part from outside the court.

Three of Ms Edge's inquiries are to do with the virus's financial impact on the Island, currently and into the future. She also wants to know more about the present operation of the free school meals vouchers.

Members won't just be discussing Covid-19. Work on evolving the Tynwald Standing Orders Committee and regulations dealing with the flood risk management will also be debated.

Questions for written answer include one from the Speaker, Juan Watterson, on what financial impact there would be on each local authority and joint board of the proposed rate reform. That's addressed to the Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas.

The sitting gets underway at 10.30. You can follow live coverage on Manx Radio's AM 1368 frequency, online, on smartphone apps and smartspeaker.
