Child threatens to stab police officer

Case adjourned for 15-year-old

A child who threatened to stab a police officer has been told to mend his ways by magistrates.

The 15-year-old boy, who can't be identified because of his age, admitted disorderly behaviour when he appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain said police were concerned for his safety when they saw him with a woman who’s said to have plied youngsters with drink and cigarettes.

But when they spoke to him on Bucks Road in Douglas at around 4pm on 27 March, he became abusive and ran off.

They later found him nearby in Deemster’s Walk, where he continued to swear before threatening to stab and strangle them.

Magistrates heard the youngster, currently in voluntary care, had breached a conditional discharge he'd been given in January for a similar offence.

He was bailed on condition he doesn't contact the woman he was seen with – magistrates said his offending seemed to be triggered by her presence.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and the boy will appear again on 1 May.
