Claim abuse support system still 'inadequate'

Former Knottfield resident speaks out

A former resident of Knottfield children's care home in Douglas says the support systems in place for victims of abuse are still inadequate.

Christine Urquhart told Manx Radio the laws and procedures in place on the Island continue to lag behind the UK.

A Tynwald inquiry into historical child abuse at the home, which closed in 1983, continues.

And whilst Miss Urquhart acknowledges that the police's Public Protection Unit, or PPU, has made some progress, she says the support network for victims remains not good enough.
