Gold Olympic medal winner insists his family wasn't consulted
Manx cyclist Peter Kennaugh has hit out at the Isle of Man Post Office saying his family wasn't consulted over a decision to paint his gold post box in Onchan back to red.
The box was painted gold to honour the MBE recipient's gold medal achievement in the Team Pursuit Race at the 2012 Olympic Games.
In a statement to Manx Radio the Isle of Man Post Office said the decision to repaint it in its original colour was made in consultation with the Kennaugh family and Onchan Commissioners.
However, Commissioner David Quirk says that's not the case:
Mr Kennaugh also denies the claim and took to Twitter saying 'it was good whilst it lasted'.
Garff MHK Daphne Caine backed calls to repaint the box gold - saying it was a 'bad decision' that needs a rethink.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Rob Callister branded the move a 'terrible decision'.
The Isle of Man Post Office has been contacted for comment.
