Climate change expert was paid £7,000 for work on Island

Professor Curran's fee revealed by the Cabinet Office

The expert tasked with leading the Isle of Man’s climate change action plan was paid £7,000 for the work he did for one government department.

Professor James Curran was appointed as the independent chair of the Climate Emergency Consultative Transformation Team in 2019.

The amount of money he was paid for that role by the Cabinet Office - and the production of one report - was revealed as part of a response to a Freedom of Information request.

Professor Curran, who is a climate scientist and former chief executive of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, was awarded an MBE for his services to the environment in 2007.

Manx Radio understands the £7,000 fee does not represent the total amount Professor Curran was paid for his cross-government work.
