Tynwald backs Ralph Peake amendment
Tynwald has backed the establishment of an independently-led, dedicated climate emergency transformation team.
An amendment by Douglas North member Ralph Peake was unanimously approved after a debate lasting more than two hours.
A move by Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper, to set a target date of 2035 for the Island to become net carbon neutral by, failed to carry with 10 votes for and 23 against.
Developments in this month's sitting of Tynwald mean a transformation team will be appointed, which will "develop the climate change action plan to include ambitious target options for achieving net zero carbon emissions with interim targets and a climate impact assessment of proposals."
