Colby man attacked ex-girlfriend in front of child

Trial finds 28-year-old guilty of assault

A court’s heard a man from Colby argued with his ex-girlfriend before attacking her in her home in front of their young child.

Twenty-eight-year-old Steven Francis David Burns of Station Park appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

He’d been found guilty of assault after a trial.

The hearing was told Burns grabbed his former partner by the throat and threw her onto the floor before punching her in the head.

The court heard Burns had been invited to his ex-girlfriend’s home in Berry Woods Avenue on 16 February.

However, he turned violent after a disagreement and assaulted her in front of their three-year-old daughter.

Mrs Hughes told him his victim should have felt safe in her own home, particularly with a guest she’d invited inside.

Burns was ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service, as well as paying £200 compensation for the injuries he caused and £1,400 costs.
