MHK estimates scheme would generate more than £600,000 per year
Government is to look at options for introducing an immigration healthcare surcharge for workers who come to the Isle of Man on a visa.
Douglas South MHK Claire Christian put forward the suggestion at this month's sitting of Tynwald, telling the court it would generate more than £600,000 per year.
She stated a similar scheme is already in place in the UK, and that the majority of migrants who come to the Island are surprised to learn they're entitled to free healthcare.
Treasury Minister Alex Allinson amended Mrs Christian's motion, calling for the Council of Ministers to consider the idea as part of the economic strategy and population rebalancing.
With Dr Allinson's amendment approved by the court, CoMin will be required to report to Tynwald by the end of July 2024.
