Commissioners committed to improving disability access in Port Erin

Charity provides new junior beach wheelchair for summer

Port Erin Commissioners says they're committed to improving disability access around the village.

They’ve told Manx Radio particular areas – including the route down to the beach – are a challenge and are lobbying the government for more support.

A new modified junior wheelchair, provided by Disability Networks, can now be hired to enable easy access to the beach – it follows the launch of an adult version last year.

They are based at the Cosy Nook and stored in huts which the commissioners have provided.

Commissioners are also working with other organisations to create an accessible footpath and viewing platform near Milner's Tower.

Clerk Jason Roberts, and board member Hannah Mackenzie, says accessibility is a key concern for both residents and visitors:
