Visit estimated to cost Treasury £40,000
A group from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will observe September’s General Election.
The CPA’s British Islands and Mediterranean Region recently studied elections in Jersey in 2018 and Guernsey in 2020.
A contingent will visit the Isle of Man ahead of the election and conduct interviews with people such as returning officers, candidates and voters.
The group will also observe polling stations and count venues on 23 September.
A report setting out findings and any recommendations will be published after the election.
It’s hoped the mission will “promote transparency and accountability, deter fraud and enhance public confidence and participation in the electoral process.”
The Clerk of Tynwald's Office will fund the visit at an estimated cost of £40,000, underwritten by Treasury.
