Community service for man who carried out assault in wedding dress

28-year-old punched security worker on his stag do

A Castletown man who punched a member of door staff in the face, whilst celebrating his stag do, has been ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service.

Thomas George Brian Kewley, of Main Road, was wearing a wedding dress when he struck the man in the face at The Saddle Inn.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to carrying out the assault on 6 August during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse this week.

The court heard Kewley had gone to the toilet, at 10.20pm, and on exiting asked the security officer standing outside his name before punching him and causing his lip to swell and bleed.

Police arrested Kewley at a nearby pub and he was taken to Police Headquarters where he told officers he was 'quite intoxicated' and thought the man had been laughing at him.

Sentencing him High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Kewley to pay £150 compensation to the victim, prosecution costs of £125 and imposed a three-week licensing ban.
