Community service for teen who kicked PC in face

19-year-old also ordered to pay compensation to officer

A teenager from Douglas has been ordered to carry out 120 hours of community service after kicking a police officer in the face.

Nineteen-year-old Olivia Gilmour Christian, of Cronk Grainagh, lashed out after being arrested in the early hours of 29 May.

Police had been called to Manannan Court where Christian had been seen banging and kicking the doors – she was intoxicated and when officers took her home she became abusive and disorderly.

She was arrested after shouting, screaming and swearing at officers and was taken to Police Headquarters where she refused to comply and was placed in a ‘risk suit’.

When a female PC attempted to remove her socks Christian struck out and kicked her in the face – in interview afterwards she said she was ‘very sorry’ and it hadn’t been intentional.

In court Christian’s advocate said the officer had been left ‘startled’ rather than hurt adding: “Miss Christian is quite clearly embarrassed and ashamed of how she’s behaved.”

Magistrates were told the teenager had written to apologise to the officer in question – they also ordered her to pay £100 in compensation and prosecution costs of £125.
