Compromise over council meeting allowance

Moves are being made to resolve the row between local authorities and government over payments for attending meetings.

Last month Tywnald approved a change to the system of allowances for local councillors and commissioners.

Instead of a flat fee per-meeting, an hourly payment will be offered instead.

But while that increases the total available to claim, there was an outcry when many local authority members said they would be paid less as a result, for attending shorter meetings.
