Conference to tackle mental illness stigma

The discrimination faced by people suffering mental illness will be in the spotlight at a conference in the Island tomorrow (Tuesday).

The event at Keyll Darree at Noble's Hospital has been organised by Island charity Service Users Network - a charity which aims to give a voice to those with mental health problems.

A guest speaker from UK charity MIND will give the keynote speech.

There'll also be talks by local specialists on areas from dementia and eating disorders to homelessness and alcohol abuse.

The Network's chairman Elaine Haynes says stigma attached to mental illness is still very much a reality in the Island:

There are two half-day conference sessions on Tuesaday, morning and afternoon.

It's open to all, for information contact Service Users Network (SUN) on 616188.
