Public to be given the chance to have their say in the coming weeks

It appears the Island is a step closer to ID checks at the Manx border, as the Department of Home Affairs prepares to launch a consultation into the topic.

At the 2025 government conference, Minister Jane Poole-Wilson reiterated that discussions were ongoing about their introduction at ports.

Speaking to Tynwald's Social Affairs Policy Review Committee alongside Chief Officer Dan Davies this week, she confirmed the public is to be given the chance to have their say in the coming weeks.

Government plans to introduce new legislation that would enable the use of facial recognition technology at the Islands ports was also discussed, though it's been determined that its use will have to be progressed by the next administration.

Mrs Poole-Wilson also confirmed the Steam Packet has been 'very engaged' in discussions about how changes would be implemented:
