Contractor announced for prom refurbishment

Auldyn Construction Ltd wins tender process

Government has confirmed its preferred contractor for the Douglas promenade refurbishment scheme.

Now we know who will be at the helm of the project, which is currently estimated to take approximately two years to complete - they previously said three.

Auldyn Construction Limited will be tasked with carrying out the refurbishment plans, within an approved budget of £25 million, working with the Department of Infrastructure.

The company, which is owned by Colas Limited, was the successful bidder in a tender process which included several large firms from overseas.

Auldyn has worked with the Manx government before - at St Ninian's Lower School, Pulrose Power Station and Douglas Harbour Lift Bridge.

Some work is already underway, with carriageway resurfacing on King Edward Road, and the raised garden area outside the Gaiety Theatre is set to be removed soon, before further work starts later this month.

The DoI says it will provide 'regular updates and feedback' on the progress of the project, with a website and social media feed promised shortly.

In the meantime, you can find out more by emailing myprom@gov.im or by calling Mary Doyle, Project Liaison Officer, on 686863.
