Controlled burn problems rare, says ranger

Firefighters spent five hours dealing with controlled burn at Druidale

It's unusual to see a planned burn of heath get out of control.

That's according to a Forestry Ranger following an incident at Druidale earlier this week, which saw firefighters spend five hours tackling the blaze.

Shaun Gelling says such burns, which can legally be carried out between September and March, are a key part of maintaining the uplands.

He explains that those starting these type of fires are typically well aware of the risks:
