Convicted murderer to hear sentence today

A convicted murderer from Castletown is due to be sentenced at Douglas Courthouse today (Friday, April 24th).

Forty-six-year-old Ian Anderson was convicted of murdering 60-year-old Neil Roberts last week.

The sentencing marks the final stage of a five week trial over the killing, which took place 16 months ago.

In December 2013, Mr Roberts's body was found by police at Anderson's Castletown home he shared with his wife.

During the trial, the court heard how Mr Roberts died from extensive injuries to his face, ribs and internal organs - the results of a fatal beating from Anderson.

The prosecution told a 12-person jury the extent of his wounds proved Anderson was guilty of murder.

Claims Anderson acted in self defence and was suffering from a personality disorder on the night of the murder, were rejected by the jury which returned a unanimous verdict last week (Friday, April 17th).

Today Deemster Montgomerie will sentence Anderson at Douglas Courthouse.
