Cool response to whippy van ban

Street trader not frozen out

A decision to refuse the sale of ice creams in the east of the Island has whipped up a storm online.

Darren Whyman, who owns the Manx Whippy brand, was denied a street trader's licence by Garff Commissioners last month.

The authority says it was on health and safety grounds.

But many residents have criticised the decision, accusing members of looking after local business interests.

One commissioner, Julie Pinson, owns an ice cream shop on Laxey beachfront - but was not present when the decision was made.

Garff chairman Nigel Dobson says the public's concerns are unfounded:
