Team effort best way to avoid disruption
The decision to close schools as a result of bad weather involves the co-ordination of a vast array of services.
That's according to Andrew Shipley, Manager of Legal and Administrative Services at the DEC.
He says both departments of Infrastructure and Children, the Met Office and Bus Vannin are all closely involved in the decision making process.
In the event of adverse weather conditions each must prioritise certain tasks, such as gritting key bus routes and ensuring the public's safety in high risk areas.
Mr Shipley says a team effort is the best way to keep disruption to a minimum.
