Could Lucan be on IOM?

Mysterious bidder from the Isle of Man

Could Lord Lucan be alive - and living on the Isle of Man?!

A mystery purchaser on the Isle of Man paid thousands of pounds for some of his belongings this week after they were auctioned in Banbury.

Bidding by internet, he - or she - spent thousands on items including his top hat, as other bidders at the auction shouted "Is Lucan buying his own things back?!"

The disgraced peer, vanished in 1974, after killing his family's nanny.

No trace of him was ever found, despite many rumours . . . and whilst a death certificate was issued in 2016, many people believe he is still alive - though he would now be 84.

The auction house Holloways of Banbury held the auction this week, on instructions from his late widow - with proceeds going to the homeless charity "Shelter".

His top hat had a reserve of £50 - but made £2,200, while his yacht’s flagpole, cap and red ensign flag, also expected to raise £50 were bought for £3,400.

The Daily Mirror on-line reported there were "gasps" as the Isle of Man buyer won successive lots against competition from around the world.

It's reported that Holloways claim it was the first time they'd had an online bidder from the Isle of Man.
