Court for GBH teen who carried out another assault

17-year-old resentenced after offending again

A teenager from Douglas has appeared in court less than two weeks after Magistrates warned him to turn his life around.

Kyle James Reeder, of Peveril Road, pleaded guilty to assaulting his brother.

The 17-year-old was found fighting with him in the middle of Glencrutchery Road, in the traffic, just before 11am on 21 March.

The pair had been at a family funeral before an argument broke out – Reeder’s advocate described it as a ‘domestic incident’ between the two.

The court heard the assault came exactly one week after Magistrates had sentenced Reeder for another assault in which he fractured a man’s cheekbone after pulling a knife on him.

That took place on Central Promenade in Douglas on New Year’s Eve; the man had called Reeder the wrong name in greeting as he walked past and the teen started fighting with him.

He produced a Swiss Army Knife from his pocket asking the man: “Do you want this in your neck?” before punching him in the face.

Reeder later admitted possessing an offensive weapon, assault causing grievous bodily harm, assaulting a police officer with the intention of resisting arrest and affray.

Sentencing him to 18 months’ probation Magistrates had told Reeder: “We truly hope you think about what you need your life to look like.

“You’re an adult now Mr Reeder – hopefully this will be your last appearance in court,” they added.

At Douglas Courthouse on Tuesday (26 March) Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood revoked that probation order and imposed a new 18-month order which takes into account the new offence.

She also ordered Reeder to pay prosecution costs of £125.
